Qualifier divisions are categorized based on age, gender, and weight for sparring divisions (Forms will not separate competitors based on weight).

WKU Qualification Age Cut-off: The official age cut-off for the WKU is June 30th, 2023. To attend the 2024 WKU World Championships in October, competitors must qualify in their respective age category at the time of the official cut-off date. Competitors with birthdays after this event or on/before June 30th must register for the Nationals at their current age and inform an official before Nationals by email. Failure to qualify in the correct division could result in forfeit from Team Canada for respective divisions or penalty costs for corrections. Age groups affected by these circumstances include: 7, 12, 14, 17, 34, 44, and 54.

Competitors over 18 years old can register for divisions below their age range. For example, a 60-year-old can compete in the 18-34, 35-44, 45-54, and 55+ age groups.

Weight Categories: WKU operates its weight categories at 5kg intervals, represented as -55kg, +55kg, etc. Plus weight categories have no upper limit.

Additional Information: WKU's website contains descriptions for the offered disciplines, accessible here.

Underbelts: The WKU Canadian National Championships serve as a national qualifier for the World Championships. No skill cap exists, and only the best are selected for Team Canada. Divisions are open to all levels, allowing color belts to compete against black belts.

Please note: Nationals is a high-level martial arts tournament with strict adherence to rules. Light contact divisions should be conducted accordingly. Competitors should not sustain injuries, and losses should result in valuable experience rather than harm.

If you're a color belt uncomfortable fighting black belts, don't hesitate to reach out to us!
